I needed to replace a damaged log retainer/deepe ning bar, ash box and grate in a 60+ fireplace. I hadn’t a clue which parts, make or model I needed. The personal service I received from Lynne is second to none. Living where I do in a relatively remote area of the Highlands of Scotland, I am forced to conduct alot of my shopping and business online. As such, I am able to objectively comment on the service I receive from each company I deal with. Lynne was able to give a personal touch to the purchases I made with prompt responses to each enquiry. I'm sure there are are others in the Fireparts.com team that have had a part in completing my orders, but Lynne stood out as someone who appeared to have her 'finger on the pulse' - and did not give the customer (me) the feeling that I was asking too much of them to complete my enquiry. I have now completed repairs to two stoves with the parts obtained from Fireparts.com. This will be my first port of call should I need anything further to repair or maintain these stove in the future.

Thank you for your feedback.  Factors affecting the lifetime of stove parts can vary dramatically depending on:

(1) Type of Fuel being burnt. Burning certain types of coal can dramatically decrease life span, see our write up on Petcoke.  I appreciate in this instance that you only burn wood.  Wood can vary from tree species to species.  For example, softwood, hardwood, some woods emit different gases, some have more sap (Sap as with the oil in Petcoke has an effect on parts and can seep into the cast iron and raise the temperature on the part)

While the density of woods can vary significantly from different species, the calorific value per unit weight is about the same (only slightly lower for hardwoods). Potential heat output of majority of hardwoods is between 19,000 to 20,000 kJ/kg; softwood is around 21,000 to 22,000 kJ/kg.

(2) Excessive Temperature of Fire and not controlling the airflow into the firebox.  With the ability to shut doors on a stove and with airflow from bottom vents, this can have an effect of excessive heat on the whole appliance, including the parts, the fire roars uncontrollably or gets very hot.  It is imperative users control the airflow and do not let stoves get to excessive temperatures.  Same as running a car really, if you contantly ran it at high revs, hot engine mean more wear, something will give much sooner.
