The Back (rear) Fire Bricks (Top and Bottom Bricks) protect the Cast Iron back panel from the Fire / Heat. If a Fire Brick is Cracked, it is recommended that the Brick be changed, as the Firebrick will soon Derogated allowing heat exposure to the rear metal casting.
