Can Vermiculite Bricks REPLACE my OLD CLAY BRICKS?
The purpose of a FIRE BRICK is to deflect the heat away from the main appliance casing (to protect it) and to channel heat back into the room.
We would always recommend that you buy the correct brick recommended by the manufacturer, whether this be CLAY or VERMICULITE. However, some OLDER STOVES CLAY firebricks may NO LONGER be AVAILABLE. In these cases, it may be likely that Vermiculite will be ok. It depends on the shape of the clay brick, Vermiculite is FLAT and cannot be bent or curved (ie. it sits flat against a flat surface). It can however be EASILY CUT INTO SHAPES.
Vermiculite is supplied in 15mm, 20mm, 25mm & 30mm thickness, so check your OLD CLAY BRICKS thickness and select the most appropriate thickness.
How easy is VERMICULITE FIREBOARD to CUT?
Vermiculite Board is a GOOD QUALITY FIRE RESISTANT BOARD used by the stove industry for its EXCELLENT FIRE RESISTAINT PROPERTIES, Its excellent HIGH STRENGTH provides a sharp and non-crumbling finish when cut. The product composition allows for easy cutting and shaping using ordinary wood working tools such as: WOOD SAW, WOOD CHISEL, SHARP BLADE for shaping. It can also be sanded.
